The last three months of 2020 flew by for me! Photography was my main focus to end the year. Majority of my life was wrapped up in photographing mini-sessions and weddings and then editing and delivering those galleries.
Photography
October I had a couple of weddings and several mini-sessions. Every weekend in October I was either in Colorado or New Mexico to photograph something. November I had my last wedding of the year and several mini-sessions too. December was spent finishing up editing and getting galleries sent out. I also took some much needed time it update my website. That always takes so much longer than I think! Still some work to do there. www.skylar-rain.com
CrossFit Coaching & Nutrition
Coaching at the CrossFit gym has been reduced to a more manageable schedule the past few months. I typically coach the 11:30 lunch class and a couple earlier morning classes. I also have two different sets of personal training clients who I fit in once a week.
Nutrition has slightly moved to the back burner for now. I still have a few clients, but keeping up with photography work and getting galleries delivered on time was my main priority. During these upcoming winter months I’ll be doing more nutrition work in the form of creating content for social and this blog. I’m also finishing up a certification course.
T.V. Shows Lately
The past few months I’ve gotten to watch some really great T.V. shows. Here are some of my favorites!
• Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (on Amazon Prime)- Can’t believe I waited so long to watch this one! It’s incredible. So funny too!
• Emily in Paris (Netflix)-Loved this one. Made my heart happy.
• Queens Gambit (Netflix)- If you have Netflix and haven’t watched this yet, then you are missing out. The clothing. The actress. The intelligence. The chess.
• The Crown (Netflix)- Season 4 of The Crown got more into the marriage of Prince Charles and Diana. I already love this show, but that story line was been fascinating to learn more about. They also have a podcast that goes along with the show that is a nice addition to listen to if you like to dive into the actual history of the time and the making of the show.
• The Great British Baking Show (Netflix)- One of my go-to shows when I want something mindless and light-hearted to watch. I had no idea the Brits had so many different desserts and different names and terms for things too!
• Currently watching: Season 4 of Man in the High Castle on Amazon Prime and watching through Sex and the City again. S & C is definitely a comfort, easy watching show for me.
Books Lately
I’m going hard in the Diana Gabaldon “Outlander Series.” I since have finished book 2, “Dragonfly in Amber,” and book 3, “Voyager.” Being close to 1000 pages each, those books take me awhile to get through! I got “Daisy Jones and The Six” for Christmas and am taking a break from the “Outlander” series to read it. This one has been on my “To Read” list for a long time!
Skiing
So far I’ve gotten in one ski day this season at Keystone. COVID regulations make skiing a little more interesting. I have to reserve my ski day ahead and there isn’t any indoor dining, so hanging out in the lodge to eat isn’t a thing. Overall, I was just happy to get outside and get several great ski runs in.
Christmas
I went home to New Mexico for Christmas this year. This was supposed to be the year that our family would go to Texas, but of course it seemed wiser to stay local. I drove home the day before Christmas Eve and we had Christmas that evening with my Dad’s family. Christmas Eve was spent watching my Mom do majority of the cooking. I did bake Soft Gingerbread Cookies from PaleOmg. They turned out perfect and tasted just like a normal gingerbread cookie! I also baked two different quiches for Christmas morning. My parents, myself, and my Aunt T, spent the evening of Christmas Eve playing pickleball in the barn! That was a fun way to get moving and out of the house. My Mom had bought my Dad a pickleball game set just for kicks, so we put it to use!
Christmas day my sister and her husband came over and we did Christmas with my parents. We had a super slow start and we were all ok with that! We enjoyed coffee, quiche, and homemade cinnamon rolls before diving into gifts. My Mom hosted Christmas dinner that evening so my grandparents and Aunt T joined us. She made prime rib, green beans, mashed potatoes, Cesar salad, and of course a red velvet cake for Jesus. It was amazing of course!
Day after Christmas we went over to my sister’s house to check out her Christmas décor before she took it down for the season. Then we went back to my parent’s house. We tried to watch “Soul” on Disney+. I caught most of it while everyone napped. It’s cute, but is also a pretty serious topic! Late afternoon my aunt, parents and I played pickleball in the barn again for a few hours.
That Sunday I drove back here to Colorado for a normal work week and to wrap up the end of the year!
Best News of 2020
What has made the last few months special and exciting is that my sister announced to us that she’s pregnant. Her and her husband will be welcoming a baby girl into the world in May! It’s pretty much the best news possible right now.
For Christmas my parents got them a stroller and car seat carrier and my sister was totally living her best life as she played with her new “toys”. I took their baby announcement photos the week of Thanksgiving too and can finally share them. They are definitely some of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken.
End of 2020
I was in Colorado for the last week of 2020 and honestly had a very normal work week. New Years Eve and Day I didn’t have to work at the gym. I decided to really give myself time to reflect and plan for 2021. I didn’t stay up past midnight and didn’t do anything out of the norm and I was 100% ok with that.
I’ve reflected. I’ve released. I’m stepping into a fresh slate and further into myself in 2021. I’m excited for what this next year will bring!
