Leibster Award!

SkylarApril 22, 2014

Hi everyone! I was nominated for the Leibster award by Cailee at Hello Healthy Eating! This is my first blog award so I’m super excited and thankful for this opportunity. So for today I’m answering those questions.

1. What got you interested in blogging?

Once I came to college I realized that it was now up to me to workout. I no longer had practices and games for high school sports that kept me in shape. Freshman year I started looking online for resources for workouts, eating healthy, etc. I stumbled across Julie’s blog Peanut Butter Fingers and Tina’s blog Carrots N’ Cake. For about a year I read their blogs and many others. I knew for a long time that I wanted to start my own blog to write about fitness, healthy eating, and to keep up with what was going on in my life. I started off with a blog on Tumblr in November 2011 and then got the courage to start my own blog in December of 2012.

2. What are some goals you have for your blog?

Some goals for my blog are #1 for me to be more consistent with my posting. #2 to continue to grow and be a source of motivation and light for people. #3 to become self-hosted!

3. How do you stay motivated to eat right and be active?

I’ve always been someone who is very aware of my body and wants to be happy with how my body looks. In the first place working out is a huge stress relief to me and I truly enjoy it. However, eating right is always a struggle for me. In high school I ate whatever I wanted and didn’t give it a second thought because I was very active with high school sports. That’s not the case anymore now that I’m in college. I realize that what I eat directly impacts the way my body looks and feels. I, myself, am my biggest motivation because I want to look healthy and feel healthy. It also helps that my close group of friends and my mom and sister are all into healthy lifestyles.

4. What are some tips to increase motivation?

When you are feeling unmotivated think of how you feel when or after a workout. Think about how your body feels when you make healthy eating choices. That always motivates me to make better eating decisions or to get moving!

5. What is your favorite ‘treat’ food?

I love pizza on the weekends. I also cannot pass up a piece of chocolate cake!

6. In a typical day, what would you usually eat?

Oatmeal with peanut butter and banana for breakfast. Lunch at my sorority house: sandwich or taco salad. Dinner: Eggs with spinach and plenty of hot sauce!

7. What is your workout routine?

Monday & Wednesday I take a weight lifting class so I do arms/back on Monday and legs on Wednesday. Tuesday/Thursday are running/cardio days. Friday is a free for all. Typically I do a chest routine, go for a run, and/or yoga.

8. Do you like to cook more or bake more?

I enjoy cooking breakfast, but otherwise I love baking more. I love all the healthy options for desserts there are now and I enjoy experimenting with recipes. I just need more time to bake!

9. How did you form healthy habits that last?

Consistency is key. Be repetitive and habitual with your healthy habits and they will stick!

10. Do you restrict junk food or eat it in moderation?

I typically only eat some junk food on the weekends. I may have fro-you or iced coffee during the week or an occasional piece of cake at work. Otherwise I eat pretty healthy during the week and tend to go all out on whatever comes my way on the weekends.
