January: Month in Review
In 2021 my goal is to keep up with monthly review. Once I let a month slide, it’s even harder the following month or the month after to do a recap. I’m still not sure what’s going to happen with this space. I have dreams. I have ideas. I’d like to focus more on nutrition. But for now showing up for a monthly review is my goal.
Let’s get into January! P.S. the best part of the month comes at the end!
New Years
I had a quiet New Years Eve & New Years Day and I was completely happy with that. I spent time looking through my journals from 2020 to reflect back on how the year went and to get ideas of things I wanted to change or improve on for 2021. In 2020 I learned a lot about my mindset and became more aware of how much of an influence my mindset can have on my overall day. In 2021 I’m focusing a lot on mindset work. There’s a lot of inner work to be done!
Ski Day
I made a day trip to my favorite place to ski, Kestone Ski Resort. I had a solid ski day and always return home exhausted and happy.
Grad School Friends
Around 4 years ago I graduated from Texas Tech with my Master’s. One of my friends from grad school lives in Denver and we FINALLY got together for dinner. We met up at a local brewery in Castle Rock. It was so nice to catch up with an old friend and to get out to experience a new restaurant. Wild Blue Yonder in Castle Rock is a place I’d love to visit again. I think we both felt silly that we had let 4 years go by while living in the same state, and hadn’t seen each other. I really hope to improve on keeping up with people better.
Photography
In the world of photography I had a handful of engagement sessions in January. With winter sessions there’s always a chance it’ll be super cold or possibly even snowy. I lucked out with all of my sessions and had gorgeous weather for all.
The majority of my work time with photography has been spent on website updates, blogging weddings & sessions, diving into Pinterest, and other miscellaneous tasks I tend to not make time for during busy season.

Book Recommendation
I finally got to read a book that has been on my to-read list for a long time! I read “Daily Jones and the Six” by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It’s a book about a rock band in the 1970s and their rise and fall to fame. What makes this book so interesting and different is that it’s written in an interview style format. You feel like you’re reading a documentary interview with these people. This band and book are complete fiction, but it seems so realistic that I was tempted to go to Google to make sure this band really was fake. Such an amazing read!
Bridgerton
I also finally watched “Bridgerton.” I’m someone who LOVES most period piece type of shows. Though this one had a modern twist with the music and characters, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
My Husband Returned
And last, but not least the best part of January was picking up my husband from deployment on January 29. He left mid-September, so it was about 4.5 months total. It truly flew by for me. He left during one of my busiest seasons of work, so I was able to really just focus on staying on top of work. However, I was so happy and ready to have him back home. Life is always so much better when we’re together.
